Here’s How to Access Google Maps While You are Offline

While using Google Maps, there will be situations where you might not always have a stable internet connection, which will definitely increase the chance for you to get lost and to have no idea of where to go.

But did you know that Google has a feature that will enable you to use Google Maps even when you are offline?

Here’s how you can access Google Maps even when you are offline.

How to Use Google Maps when Offline

On opening the Google Maps app, users will find their profile picture on the top right corner, tap on it and then select the “Offline Maps”. After this in the next menu select “Select Your Own Map” and then move the rectangle over the area that you plan to visit. After selecting it, click download which will download the map on your device.

If it is a specific city or a place that you are going to visit, then the steps are a little more easy. Search the destination on the Google Maps search bar and select the location. After that, tap on the three dots that you can find on the top right corner of the information panel and then select download maps. This will download the specific map instead of an area.

The app will also show you the exact space it would require on the device before it starts to get downloaded which will give its users an idea about the space taken by the map. It is also to be noted that the size of the offline map will depend on how precise you are. If you are very precise, then the size of the offline map would be the least.

Turning on auto-update will also enable the app to update the map accordingly when an internet connection is available. However it is also to be noted that since the app is loaded ahead of the current time, the map won’t show an accurate idea about any sort of traffic issues.
