Toyota delivered the Hilux 4x4s to the Indian Army as a new addition to their fleet; Hilux is Toyota’s first vehicle order from the Indian Army

Indian Army added the Hilux 4x4s from Toyota to their fleet. Toyota delivered the first batch of the Hillux pick-up truck to the Indian Army on Wednesday. This new addition is Toyota’s first vehicle order from the Indian Army.

The Northern Command of the India Army’s Technical Evaluation Committee rigorously evaluated the Hillux for two months before inducting it into their fleet. The authorities tested the vehicle in rough terrain and extreme weather condition. The vehicle underwent tests and evaluation from an altitude of 13,000 ft to sub-zero temperatures.

The Indian Army possesses various 4x4s in their fleet, which includes the likes of Maruti Gypsy, Mahindra Scorpio, Tata Safari Storme (GS800), Tata Xenon pick-up, etc. Now in recent developments, the Toyota Hilux is the new addition.

The Indian Army seems to appreciate the off-road capability of the vehicle. Additionally, Toyota’s brand credibility is probably another reason why the Indian Army prioritized the vehicle. Although one might assume that the army-spec edition Hillux would be modified accordingly for army convenience, there’s no input if it differs from the civilian-spec model.

Prior to this, the Indian Army acquired a fleet of the Mahindra Scorpio Classic, which was meant to replace the older units of the Maruti Gypsy. The Maruti Gypsy served the Indian Army for about two decades.
