Nokia achieves world’s fastest download speed, hitting extended range mmWave 5G speed of 2Gbps in Finland

The popular electronics brand, Nokia, announced today one of its new achievements. The company revealed in a recent press release that they hit an extended range millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G speed record in Finland.

This means, Nokia managed to record a download speed of more than 2Gbps over 11 Km of distance.

With the use of mmWave spectrum and 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), Nokia managed to achieve a sustained average downlink speed of about 2 Gigabits per second. This happened for a distance of 10.86 Km.

The achievement comes in as the world’s fastest download speed to date. The event was executed at the OuluZone test facility in Oulu, Finland.

Nokia used their AirScale baseband and AirScale 24GHz (n258 band) mmWave radio, along with a Nokia FastMile 5G PoC CPE (customer premises equipment).

The process included eight component carriers (8CC) in the downlink that aggregated 800MHz of mmWave spectrum. The resultant downlink speed was 2.1 Gbps and the uplink speed was 57.2 Mbps.

This achievement lays the foundation for high-quality internet connectivity studios, which FWA can deliver to areas where a wired connection is not always possible.
