Apple iPhones to be Released in France to Support only eSIM
Apple, as we all know, has started making iPhones that do not have a physical sim card slot and with only support for eSIM in the United States. Currently, Apple offers three ways to set up its users eSIM which include,
- eSIM Quick Transfer, by which users can wirelessly convert a physical SIM on one phone to an eSIM on another or by moving an existing eSIM between two phones.
- eSIM Carrier Activation, with which one can set up a new eSIM.
- Carrier apps or websites, users will be able to scan a QR after providing their account credentials to set up an eSIM on their device.
Three major carriers in the US, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon support both Quick Transfer and Carrier Activation along with some MVNO(mobile virtual network operator) providers and overseas carriers.
Compared to an iPhone supporting physical SIM cards, iPhones supporting eSIMs are considered more secure, making switching between carriers easier and allowing users to add extra lines on their iPhones. Without the SIM card slot, the iPhones will have a little more space within and can also be much more water resistant.
But even with all these benefits, iPhones with only eSIMs have their drawbacks and one of the biggest drawbacks it will have is the issue a user will face while traveling to a region that only supports carriers offering physical SIM cards, forcing its users to rely on a secondary device. But still for its advantages, and due to a possible switch to eSIMs in the future, Apple will in the future make their iPhones without a SIM card slot, and following this trend, the next iPhones to be released in France will also only come with eSIM support and without a physical SIM card slot.
As per the article published on iGeneration, future iPhone 15 and 15 Pro smartphones expected to come out this year in the month of September will not have a sim card slot when released in France. The article further also states that soon the company will extend this change to other countries as well.
