Motorola Rizr rollable smartphone concept introduced at Lenovo’s MWC 2023 Booth

We are fully aware of the foldable smartphones introduced by Samsung and Oppo but what if we tell you that you can go from a mini-sized phone to a plus one with just a push of a button? At the MWC 2023 event, Motorola has come up with a rollable smartphone concept.

According to this concept, you can have both an easily one-hand phone and a larger screen for media consumption when needed. Sounds interesting right?

Motorola gave the world the Rizr phone, whose display slides up to reveal the physical keyboard underneath and now the company is bringing the Rizr back in concept form. The only difference is that the new version trades the sliding action for a rolling screen.

The new concept device features a 5-inch display with a 15:9 aspect ratio which expands vertically to a 6.5-inch diagonal with a 22:9 aspect ratio. The screen is a pOLED display manufactured by BOE. This rollable concept phone weighs 210 grams and houses a 3000 mAh battery.

The panel wraps around the back of the device, leaving a small area of the display so that the user could view notifications or as a camera viewfinder to preview shots. The earpiece and front camera are tucked behind the panel so whenever you make/receive a call or want to take a selfie, the display will roll down.

The most interesting part is that the rollable mechanism automatically expands the display in apps like YouTube to give you an immersive experience and in Email, an app to give you a larger canvas to type. To make this possible, the display curves around the bottom of the device, and users will also get to see a small part of the screen on the rear case. The brand has equipped the smartphone with wallpapers that display effects while moving the display. The device comes with a USB Type-C port on the left.

Motorola’s this concept is really cool and genuinely exciting and if the company decides to move forward with this concept, introducing a rollable smartphone it would be quite thrilling for the users to get the experience of this phone transformation on their hands.
