We have talked a number of times about how foldable smartphones have currently become a new trend in the mobile industry. Most of the brands out there have already introduced their foldable devices with their unique features while some of the brands will be launching their foldable flagships soon in the market. Well, what if we tell you that a foldable device might also feature an outward-facing display?

Yes, you read that right!! Honor Global has showcased a new foldable smartphone concept at IFA 2023. According to this concept, the smartphone can be folded outwards while it has a separate camera bar on the rear side. This is not the only surprising element of the concept introduced as Honor V Purse. Other than this the foldable device can also be carried as a fashion accessory similar to a purse with interchangeable straps and chains.

As visible through the video, it just looks like a purse that offers innovative features. The Honor V Purse is 9mm when folded while the brand calls this concept a “phy-digital fashion statement.” It is showcased with the Always on display feature and some interesting textures like chains, feathers, and tassels that reach and sway with the smartphone when carried as a purse.

The Always on Display feature helps in setting up some handbag-style wallpapers on the device while the device can sense motion that reflects on the display. Other than this the video also shows the app icons that appear on the outer screen as bracelet charm which is kind of unique and interesting to look at.

For now, this is just a concept that was showcased by Honor and there was no confirmation whether the company will introduce a foldable device based on this concept or not.

Samsung has officially announced the date for this year’s developer conference. The event will be conducted both in offline and online modes, and the brand will be unveiling its latest software, services, and platforms at the event.

The South Korean-based multinational tech company, Samsung, has announced and invited everyone to the brand’s developer conference event that is to be conducted this year. The event will be a place where developers, creators, designers, and industry experts will come together to discuss and witness many of the latest innovations that are to be unveiled at the event.

The event will start with the keynote on the 5th of October 2023, at 10 AM Pacific Time. It will be held in San Francisco at Moscone North and will also be broadcast online. Samsung officials – JH Han, Jaeyeon Jung, Anil Yadav, Shincheol Baik, Hobum Kwon, Bongjun Ko, Sally Hyesoon Jeong, Hon Pak, and Nick Holzherr, will be talking about all the latest innovations and updates. The sessions will include – Platform Innovation, Mobile Experience, Screen Experience, Home Experience and Health Experience.

After the keynote, there are other various events too, starting from 11:30 AM(PT) to 7:00 PM(PT). Some of the on-site events are Tech Square – where participants will be able to talk with experts and experience and know about the latest updates from Samsung platforms and OS; Code Lab – where you’ll be educated with the recent SDKs and tools from the brand; Hacker’s Playground – which is a casual hacking competition and an opportunity to receive self-study materials to improve skills; and Bits and Bytes – the last event which comprises of a live performance, enjoyable arcade games, and a lucky draw contest.

Room-Temperature, Ambient-Pressure Superconductor

Reports are now revealing a breakthrough achievement regarding the successful discovery of a room-temperature ambient-pressure superconductor by Korean scientists and, while this has not yet been confirmed to be true, Ming-Chi Kuo, a market analyst widely referred to as one of the best Apple analysts, has stated that the incorporation of this into consumer electronics devices will bring a revolutionary change in product design, even if the commercialization of room-temperature, ambient pressure superconductor is not expected soon.

Room-Temperature Ambient-Pressure Superconductor

For the past week, the world has been discussing what could be a breakthrough achievement and this is regarding none other than the discovery of LK99, a lead-based compound discovered by a few Korean scientists and which has been claimed to be a room-temperature, ambient-pressure superconductor.

So what’s the big deal? Well, a superconductor can be used to conduct electricity much faster without any resistance and without the loss of energy and, this can be used effectively for many applications. But the biggest drawback is that most and almost all of the known superconductors available require very low temperatures and extremely high pressure than normal in order to work properly. This makes the task of incorporating superconductors a very costly process. This is where the discovery of LK99 becomes significant.

What we have now are two research papers pointing to the discovery and the synthesis of the material, however many other scientists and critics have found certain discrepancies and issues with the two papers, including the reason why the names of six scientists have been mentioned in the second paper from the two mentioned on the first paper when the Noble prize that can be expected for the discovery can only be shared among three people.

Following this, Ming-Chi Kua, a market analyst and a known Apple analyst has come forward to share his views on the possible change a room-temperature, ambient-pressure superconductor can bring to the world of consumer electronics manufacturing. He mentions that with the help of such superconductors, computer and consumer electronics manufacturers will be able to make products with high-speed computing and transmission. Thanks to the disappearance of electrical resistance, manufacturers won’t have to use cooling systems, can replace optical fiber/high-end CCL and can even lower the entry barrier of advanced nodes. The revolutionary change which can thus be achieved in product design can in turn make a mobile device have computing power similar to a quantum computer itself.

It is also to be noted that the commercialization of room-temperature ambient-pressure superconductors are very far away in the future and we’ll have to wait for quite sometime to see these changes that can be achieved in the product design of consumer electronics.

New Apple Patent: Perspective Correct Vector Graphics with Foveated Rendering

The US Patent & Trademark Office has published a new patent application from Apple, titled “Perspective Correct Vector Graphics with Foveated Rendering”. It relates to devices, systems and methods that implement certain rendering processes.

Apple’s New Patent Application

Apple had introduced its much-awaited and most anticipated Vision Pro Headset at the brand’s WWDC23 event keynote held on the 5th of June, 2023, and the VP of Apple’s Technology Development Group, Mike Rockwell explained to the audience the key components used in Apple’s Vision Pro Headset. While talking about the visionOS, Rockwell also spoke about the Foveated Renderer used in the operating system.

For those of you who didn’t know, a Foveated Renderer uses a rendering technique that with the help of the eye tracker that is integrated with the virtual reality headset, reduces the workload of the device by focusing on the point where the eyes are pointed to and reducing the quality of the images in the peripheral vision. This is exactly how Apple’s Vision Pro Headset too works by delivering the maximum image quality to exactly where the user’s eyes are looking in each frame.

On the 15th of June 2023, Apple submitted a new patent application to the US Patent & Trademark Office which the company titled “Perspective Correct Vector Graphics with Foveated Rendering” and the patent application relates to the devices, systems, and methods which are used in the rendering processes that perform vector graphic rendering for its Vision Pro, iPhones, and other devices. In most parts of the application, it is revealed as of the company is speaking about a head-mounted device (HMD) that has an optical see-through or an opaque display in it.

As understood, the “Perspective Correct Vector Graphics with Foveated Rendering” that the company is trying to get a patent for, based on the gaze direction will be increasing the image quality of the focused region and will reduce the amount of computation and memory used in providing perspective correct rendering. An illustrative image has also been given below, depicting how the rendering process works.

Researchers at Meta have introduced its new AI technology with which anyone can instantly create photorealistic avatars with just the help of a smartphone.

Codec Avatars – Meta’s Life-Like Avatars

With the advancements Meta has been making in the area of photorealistic avatars and other AI developments, Meta has jumped years ahead with the Codec-Avatars, enabling anyone to create more life-like photorealistic avatars.

The company first introduced the Codec-Avatars back in 2019, and these learned, photorealistic face models can be used to scan and create three-dimensional images or avatars of a person, that can be later used in VR devices or for such purposes. Meta used MUGSY, a specialized setup that included 171 high-resolution cameras to create the life-like avatars but with the advancements that have been made, the front-facing depth sensor of a smartphone, like an iPhone with FaceID, is all that is needed to create the avatar.

To create the Codex Avatars, the phone has to be panned across the neutral face and then repeat the process with a series of 65 facial expressions. This creates a life-like avatar that can depict more subtleties like raising the eyebrows, squinting, widening the eyes, or scrunching the nose, which will add more life to them.

Researchers have also added that the scanning process takes about three to three and a half minutes and even if it is titled as “instant”, users will have to wait four another six hours for the avatar to be processed. An AI machine with four high-end GPUs is used to create the avatar and depict it in full detail. Even after the product is made available to the public, it will probably not use the GPU on the user’s device but would rather use the cloud GPU for the process.

Meta hasn’t declared a date when it will make it available to the general public, but will soon be made available.

MediaTek, the 4th largest global fabless semiconductor company in the world has just introduced its very own automotive platform, the Dimensity Auto bringing a lot of advanced and cutting-edge technologies to make future-ready, intelligent cars.

The chipset has a scalable AI multi-processor which is equipped with a deep learning accelerometer(MDLA) and a vision processing unit(MVPU). The newly developed chipset also ensures more battery efficiency and reduces the battery consumption of the vehicle.

The chipset also incorporates MediaTek’s MiraVision smart display technology which is capable of supporting multiple displays with upto 8K HDR display screens that have refresh rates of 120Hz. It also provides support for several HDR-native cameras and the support for advanced integrated display technology allows car manufacturers to add flexible OLED screens and large display screens along with multi-display options on their EV units.

The MediaTek Dimensity Auto also offers multiple entertainment options with a fast boot time of sub-1s. A dedicated DSP(Digital Signal Processor) is also provided for microphone audio processing

Regarding its communication technologies, the chipset’s communication technologies are based on 3GPP open standards and include MediaTek 5G NTN, V2X, and 5G RedCap. The chipset also supports Wi-Fi 7 and is equipped with MediaTek’s hardware networking accelerator. It will also support high interoperability and coexistence of multiple wireless networks which includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 5G.

For location positioning, the chipset uses the best technologies with which determining the position and navigating through underground parking structures, tunnels, and other such satellite dead zones becomes possible. The chipset also offers a full range of assured power management(PMIC) solutions with comprehensive GNSS coverage enabling more accurate positioning.

With all these cutting-edge technologies introduced in the chipset, the latest MediaTek Dimensity Auto will enable car manufacturers in making their vehicles future-ready with many advanced features onboard.

In the world of technology, we get to see every day one or the other innovation or creative idea being introduced. From robotic vacuum cleaners to electrical scooters, the department of tech has a lot to offer to people all over the world. One such interesting and amazing innovation is the world’s first full-size all-electric plane named Alice .

Alice was launched by an Israeli-founded company Eviation aircraft and this plane has a max cruise speed of 276 miles per hour. It comes with a battery technology similar to that of an electric car or a cell phone and with 30 minutes of charging this airplane will be able to fly for one hour for upto 650 miles. The all-electric plane comes in three configurations: a can accommodate up to nine passengers, a six-passenger luxury plane, and an e-cargo version along with accommodation of two crew members, although the company hopes to introduce electric planes that accommodates 20 to 40 passengers in most probably seven to ten years.

This plane is also a boon for the environment as it could potentially clean up pollution from shorter routes between small regional airports. During the launch announcement of this plane Eviation President and CEO Gregory Davis said in a statement, “ People now, know what affordable, clean and sustainable aviation looks and sounds like for the first time in a fixed wing, all-electric aircraft. This groundbreaking milestone will lead to innovation in sustainable air travel and shape both passenger and cargo travel in the future .”

The all-electric passenger plane produces no carbon emissions while flying up to 650 miles, significantly reduces noise, and costs a fraction to operate per flight hour compared to light jets or high-end turboprops. It is aimed to typically operate flights ranging from 150 miles to 250 miles and the aircraft incorporates a fly-by-wire cockpit, providing greater reliability and systems redundancy. Its lift-to-drag ratio is 25:1 making it more efficient and less energy-consuming. The goal of this aircraft is particularly to find a sustainable way to move people regionally.

Eviation’s Alice costs about $200 per flight hour to operate, also US-based airline Cape Air has already decided to buy the aircraft at $4 million per plane .

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 which is likely to come after Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset will be, based on its Geekbench scores, 40% faster than the latter. The chipset will have an architecture with two Nuvia Phoenix I cores and six Phoenix M cores.

Qualcomm’s Latest Snapdragon Chipsets

Reports are now revealing that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset will arrive packed with six performance cores and two efficiency cores. However, the Geekbench 5 single-core score of the chipset has come to 1800 points from the expected 1950 points the chipset was supposed to have.

Following this Tech Reve, a tipster on Twitter had also shared that the chipset has scored a multi-core score of 6500 points on the Geekbench multi-core test, which is about 20% more than the score acquired by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset which appeared earlier on Geekbench with a codename SM8650. As previously mentioned, the chipset also scored the same 1800 points for its single-core score.

With this, it reveals that the A17 Bionic chipset which is going to be introduced by Apple will be better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The A17 Bionic chipset will also be made using TSMC’s 3nm process technology whereas the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset will use the 5nm process technology.

Now coming to its successor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset codenamed SM8750, from what is now known, will be 40% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The chipset will also be the first mobile AP(application processor) with two Nuvia Phoenix I cores and six Phoenix M cores. The chipset will also be manufactured using TSMC’s enhanced 3nm process, N3E, and has scored a single-core score of 2070 points and a multi-core score of 9100 points on Geekbench 5.

It is also to be noted that this is the score of an early sample of the chipset and the finished product will probably work much faster than this and will offer better performance on the device.
