Samsung Electronics Releases its 2023 Sustainability Report: Strategies and Performance Disclosed

Samsung Electronics has just recently released its 2023 sustainability report, disclosing its sustainability strategies and their performance made in the spheres of people, planet, and principles. The highlights of the report include the company’s major activities of the past year.

Samsung’s 2023 Sustainability Report

Two of the notable progress or achievements made by the company are in the implementation of the New Environmental Strategy and the launch of the Global Human Rights Principles. The New Environmental Strategy speaks mainly about the company’s plans of attaining net zero at the Device eXperience(DX) Division by 2030 and also at the Device Solutions(DS) Division(at the company level) by 2050.

In the countries of Vietnam, India, and Brazil, Samsung has completely transited to the use of renewable energy use. The company has also started to use more amounts of recycled resin in the plastic parts of all of its products than before. To treat process gas and to reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions, the company has also installed RCSs(Regenerative Catalytic Systems) in its facilities. AWS(Alliance for Water Stewardship) has also awarded the Hwaseong Campus, one of Samsung’s semiconductor campuses with a Platinum rating, for their efforts taken to restore water to its natural state.

The company has also joined initiatives like ACEC(Asian Clean Energy Coalition), PACE(Platform for Accelerating the Circular Economy), and RE100(Renewable Energy 100). With the collaboration of Patagonia, Samsung also plans to launch a filter in their washing machines, which will help in reducing microplastics.

As mentioned, the company launched its Global Human Rights Principle in the first quarter of this year, in February 2023, which focuses on the steps and approaches the company will take and is taking in respecting human rights and also in fostering talents. In line with this, the company had previously introduced the FA(Free Agent) initiative and STEP(Samsung Talent Exchange Program) and has also launched UniverSE(The University of Samsung Electronics).

Finally, the company has also installed sustainability-related indicators for performance evaluation and has also launched its own sustainability website, offering detailed information on their various sustainability activities.
