After Vivo and Oppo now Realme to exit German market over patent lawsuit

After forcing Vivo and Oppo to leave lucrative German smartphones, Nokia is now behind Realme of the BBK group. Recently Realme confirmed in a statement to NextPit that it will be restricting its business in Germany. The company has blamed “sales slowdown” and a pending Nokia patent lawsuit. A similar move was taken by the sister groups Oppo, OnePlus, and more recently Vivo.

When it’s finally decided to leave, the company will veer its focus from Germany to other European markets. And the company won’t be selling its newly launched Realme 11, Realme 11 Pro, and Pro+ in the market. Realme can now shift its focus to Italy, Poland, Spain, and the Balkans. Despite this setback, Realme still remains one of the top four smartphone manufacturers in the world and hopes to be able to negotiate with Nokia, unlike sister groups.

German users won’t be able to get their hands on a mid-range smartphone like Realme C55 which is quite successful in other European markets.

Nokia’s portfolio of patent

Nokia’s industry-leading patent portfolio is the result of huge investment spent on R&D. Nokia owns 20,000 patent families, including over 3,500 patent families declared essential to 5G.
