Women’s sports are up for TV rights

TV rights deals are roaring high in the U.S. and abroad as people are turning up to tune in for women’s sports in greater numbers. Serena Williams’ day one match at the U.S. Open broke the viewership records for ESPN, while the Women’s Soccer Euro Final set the highest number of viewers for any British program this year.

Now, the Indian cricket fans need to subscribe to three TV channels or as many as three OTT platforms to follow the nations favourite game.

ZEE is the latest in the TV list after entering into a strategic partnership with Disney Star to telecast all ICC men’s events for the 2024-27 cycle. With this apart from Star and Sony, fans need to have ZEE TV channels also. As for digital viewing, Hotstar, SonyLIV and Voot are the available options.

“ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (ZEE) and Disney Star today announced that they have entered into a strategic licensing agreement by way of which Disney Star will license the television broadcasting rights of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s and Under 19 (U-19) global events for a period of four years, to ZEE. Disney Star will continue to be the exclusive home for streaming of all ICC tournaments through its digital platform – Disney+ Hotstar. ICC has in-principle approved this arrangement,” said a joint press statement.
