Jio AirFiber Plans

The rest of the story continues

One of the leading network providers of the country, Reliance Industries Limited’s Jio, will be launching its very first wireless device capable of offering high-speed internet – the Jio AirFiber, today, in India, on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. The official announcement was made by Mukesh Ambani himself, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, at the 46th Annual General Meeting conducted late last month, in August 2023.

Airtel, the only strong competitor Jio has in the country, has already launched its wireless 5G device – the Airtel Xstream AirFiber, as the country’s very first 5G FWA device. The device and its services are currently only available in the cities of Mumbai and Delhi and are said to be made available throughout the country in the coming months. Unlike Airtel’s Xstream AirFiber, the Jio AirFiber is reported to be more readily available.

Read about it below.

Jio AirFiber Launching Today

As we celebrate the auspicious day of the birth of Lord Ganesh, referred to as the deity of new beginnings, Jio is adding its part to the celebrations by launching its wireless high-speed 5G network offering device – the Jio AirFiber, today on the 19th of September 2023.

A new update from a tipster on the Twitter platform has made it sweeter, as it has been revealed that the latest device will be made readily available and once it is unveiled in the country, customers may probably be able to purchase and avail the service. The tipster claims to have spoken to a representative of the connection team, who has shared this information concerning the soon-to-be-launched device.

The Jio Airfiber will be capable of offering a high-speed internet connection of 1.5 Gbps and comes with many special features including parental controls, Wi-Fi 6 support, and an integrated security firewall. It is likely to be made available at a competitive price (total cost) of around Rs. 6,000.

Once the device is launched, we’ll be able to confirm more about the device and its features. Stay tuned until then.

Jio AirFiber

Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, officially announced that the Jio AirFiber will be having its launch this month on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi(19 September 2023).

With just three days more until its launch, here are some of its features and how it will be different from the brand’s JioFiber.

Jio AirFiber Launching on 19th September

The soon-to-be-launched Jio AirFiber is a portable wireless device that will be able to offer its users Jio’s True 5G services at a speed of 1.5Gbps. Apart from this, the device will also have features like parental controls, Wi-Fi 6 support, and an integrated security firewall.

So what is the difference between Jio AirFiber and JioFiber?

The first thing is that the JioFiber uses fiber optic cables, whereas the upcoming Jio AirFibre is a wireless device. The speed of the internet that will be offered on the Jio AirFibre is 1.5Gbps and is faster than the internet speed offered via the JioFiber(1Gbps).

Jio’s AirFiber can also be installed anywhere without the limitations caused due to any kind of infrastructural issues while drawing fibre optic cables is mandatory to set up JioFiber. As the Jio AirFiber is a plug-and-play device, it can be easily ported and transported and again be set up easily, but this is not the case for the JioFiber. Once it is set up, it is fixed and permanent.

Finally, about the cost, the Jio AirFiber will cost more than what is paid for JioFiber. It is expected to be made available at a total cost of around Rs. 6,000.

Also check out the already launched Airtel Xstream AirFiber FWA, Jio AirFiber’s competitor product.

Airtel, one of the leading network providers in India, launched its Xstream AirFiber early this month and now, the Xstream AirFiber 2 in black color has been spotted by a tipster alongside the 1st generation product. The device might soon be launched in India.

Here’s more about it.

Airtel Xstream AirFiber 2 Spotted

This update comes from the tipster, Abhishek Yadav, who has shared an image of the upcoming Airtel Xstream AirFiber 2 listed along with the already made available Xstream AirFiber.

Design-wise, the Xstream AirFiber 2 is very much different from its predecessor. From the front view image of the device, only the Airtel 5G branding is present at the bottom of the device with no other indicators, unlike the Xstream AirFiber which has indicators to show the internet network, cellular network, and connectivity at its front. As mentioned, the upcoming device has been spotted in Black color, in contrast to the Xstream AirFiber which, as of now, is only available in White color.

The tipster has also suggested that the device is to have its launch soon in the Indian market.

Apart from this little information, nothing much about the device is known and we’ll have to wait until more updates are revealed.

Speaking about Airtel’s Xstream AirFiber, the device has only been made available in the cities of Delhi and Mumbai and is to be made available soon throughout the country. The company has launched the device with the aim of extending and offering faster internet connectivity services to the regions where drawing optical fiber cables is difficult. Regarding the cost, customers will have to pay a refundable security amount of Rs. 2,500 along with a monthly payment of Rs. 799. With the half-yearly plan, customers will only have to pay Rs. 4,435 for six months. You may read more about the device here.

Just to add, Jio, one of Airtel’s strong competitors, will also be launching the Jio AirFiber next month, on the 19th of September 2023, and the announcement was made at RIL’s 46th AGM which was conducted very recently.

SpaceX to apply for Starlink licence in India, Confirmed source

Starlink which is available in nearly 32 countries all across the world can soon come to India. According to the recent report by the New Indian Express, officials close to the matter revealed that the DoT officials are likely to meet on September 20, 2023, to decide on awarding the Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) license to Starlink to operate in the country. Starlink applied for the license last year that will grant permission to offer satellite communication in the licensed areas.

Starlink keen to start its operation in India began taking pre-orders in 2021 even before it secured a license. However later it had to refund money to people after DoT warned the company against taking orders before receiving a licence.

After Airtel-backed OneWeb and Jio’s satellite arm, Jio Space Technology, Starlink is the third company to apply for this license. After receiving this license Starlink will require the satellite spectrum from DoT’s wireless planning and coordination.

As per the statement made by the officials to the New Indian Express, they are also looking forward to bringing OTT communication apps like WhatApps, Signal, and Telegram into the licensing regime. This step would ensure safety in the future because “If these OTT players are under the licensing regime, they are obliged to follow government directions. In case of any incidents like in Nuh or Manipur, we could have directed these apps to stop their services without having to disconnect entire internet services,” the official said.
