X plans on scrapping off the option to block other users, the decision contradicts Apple’s App Store guidelines

According to recent reports, social media platform X plans on turning off the option of ‘blocking another user’. Elon Musk recently announced that X would no longer provide the option to block. Musk’s further suggestion is that users should instead opt for the option of “mute”. However, the plan stands in contradiction to Apple’s App Store guidelines.

Netizens are of the opinion that this is one of the most unnecessary decisions that the platform might come up with.

The ability to block a user on any platform is convenient in certain aspects. It even ensures privacy and safety in certain matters. In cases of spam, fraud, and stalking, the ability to block a user helps us from facing inconvenient scenarios.

The popular social media platform is now planning on turning off this option.

However, this decision is not feasible according to Apple’s App Store guidelines.

According to Apple’s App Store guidelines, apps that cater to user-generated content should offer “the ability to block abusive users from the service.”

Apple’s App Store guidelines clearly state in one of their points for the “User-generated Content” section, that “To prevent abuse, apps with user-generated content or social networking services must include:  The ability to block abusive users from the service”.
