Data worth of 3.7 GB leaked, assumed to be of Costa Rica’s Junta de Proteccion Social

According to a recent update by the Twitter handle @_bettercyber_ (BetterCyber) the Lockbit ransomware group made the addition of a file tree. It had data that includes a 7.8 GB zip file. The data is reportedly assumed to be of Costa Rica’s Junta de Proteccion Social (jps[.]CR).

The file dates displayed in the leaked date indicates that the attackers presumably carried out the attack sometime around April24, 2022.

Junta de Proteccion Social is a Social Protection Board. They contribute to human welfare by catering to public health, well-being and quality of life of populations experiencing poverty and social vulnerability by offering services such as Lotteries, Games of Chance and provision of Services in Cemeteries.

The vision of the said organization is to enhance and facilitate strong social development and public health. Their aim is to do this by making economic and social contributions to various social programs and the Administration of Camposantos.

On the other hand, Lockbit ransomware group is a ransomware service known to have made their way in the scene in September 2019. Lockbit ransomware, make the files of an infected user unusable. The ransomware along with encrypting the files of the victim also ensures that the users pay the ransom. They threaten the victims to publish their files, unless they pay the ransom amount.
