Airtel has increased the pace of its 5G rollouts and the aim of covering 5G service in urban India by March 2023 has now been decided till September 2023 as said by managing director Gopal Vittal. He made this statement at ETTelecom 5G Congress 2023 on Thursday.

“We’re seeing the fastest rollout ever in the history of the world. Airtel is already covering 400 towns and we’re adding about 30 to 40 cities or towns every single day. By June, which is just three months away, we will be in 4000 cities,” Vittal said.

With such a high rate of coverage, Airtel is also focusing on the rollout of 5G service for rural India. He said that the company will cover 60,000 to 70,000 villages in this financial year. He termed the 5G as a supercomputer and supercomputing ability that mobile operators are providing nowadays. According to him, the telecom industry is one of the most taxed industries that needs an incredible amount of investment. Along with these same services same rules, lack of use cases, and monetization for 5G were also mentioned by him as some of the challenges that the telecom industry is facing.
