52 lakh fraudulent connections suspended, 67,000 sim dealers blacklisted, 300 FIRs registered, reports Ashwini Vaishnaw
Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, recently updated about measures that the concerned authority of Telecom reforms carried out in regards to Telecom fraudulent activities. The minister stated that of late the concerned authority has detected, deactivated, and blacklisted a huge number of fraudulent connections, and sim dealers and suspended a huge number of WhatsApp accounts.
This article contains a brief report of the statistics regarding the deactivation and suspensions of these fraudulent entities.
According to reports by Ashwini Vaishnaw, the authority has detected and deactivated about 52 lakh fraudulent connections. These connections were obtained by users by submitting false documents, ids, etc.
Along with it, the authority has blacklisted about 67,000 sim dealers, who provide such connections. In the context of this matter, about 300 FIRs have been registered. These 300 FIRs were registered in matters where the intent of fraud was clear.
17,000 mobile handsets have been blocked which were reported to be stolen or obtained fraudulently.
He further reported that 66,000 WhatsApp accounts have been blocked. The minister stated in this matter that of late many fraud calls and threat activities were being carried out through WhatsApp communications. The authority in this matter has thus blocked 66,000 concerned WhatsApp accounts.
Off late, Netizens have expressed that fraudulent calls and texts through WhatsApp have decreased for some time now.
