Vi Network Joins Hands With The Human Network To Conduct Network Tests

In the hurry and hustle of Mumbai city, Vi joined hands with the lunch delivery network, the Dabbawalas, for a network test. They helped Vi to test their network across the nooks and corners of the city. From the different corners of the city, they kept sending feedback.

The network engineers, with the feedback, assessed the signal strength in real time. They also kept fixing the weaker spots along the way. This way, Vi managed to do the network test with the Dabbawalas.

This could have been practically more challenging when those who don’t know the inside out of the city opted to do it. Dabbawalas are a prominent household name in Mumbai city and they reach every corner in the city with ease.

Dabbawalas

The Dabbawalas are a lunchbox delivery and return system. They deliver hot lunches from homes and restaurants to the people who are at work in Mumbai, India. The lunch boxes are picked up in the morning by them. To deliver, they use predominantly bicycles and railways.

In the late 1800s, in the almost absence of fast foods and canteens in Bombay, while migration was in huge numbers, all the migrants left early in the morning for offices and often had to go hungry for lunch. These working people belonged to every community and they had to be fed from their home.

In 1890, Mahadeo Havaji Bachche started a lunch delivery service with a hundred men. This was a successful venture and the service grew quickly. The name ‘Dabbawala’ means ‘one who carries a box’.
