The Bharat NCAP will be activated later this year. Ahead of this, many vehicles are voluntarily taking safety tests as part of the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign. In the latest developments, the Hyundai Verna bagged a top Global NCAP rating in terms of adult and child occupant safety.
The Global NCAP test assessed the Hyundai Verna in its most basic passive safety features first. This includes testing the vehicle’s safety with 6 airbags and ESC. The structure was unstable; however, the model was marked with a five-star rating for adult and child occupants’ safety.

After executing the side impact test, the vehicle was then tested for a Child Restraint System (CRS) which failed. However, upon performing a higher energy side impact test, the CRS didn’t show any further signs of failure.
The Global NCAP’s crash test includes an assessment of frontal and side impact protection for all models. Along with it, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC), is also assessed. To score a high star rating, a vehicle should pass pedestrian protection and side impact pole protection assessment.
Alejandro Furas, the Secretary General of Global NCAP welcomed Hyundai to the five-star club in the Indian market.
